Volunteers are very important people at Wright-Way Rescue. We rely on the assistance of caring and hard-working volunteers in all of our programs. In a year's time, Wright-Way Rescue receives more than 3,000 unwanted and abused pets, and helps unite them with loving homes. We also offer services such as humane education, mobile cat adoptions, and various fundraiser's and community events throughout the year.

At our Niles Adoption Center pets enjoy the comfort of a nurturing environment in state-of-the-art facilities.At our Murphysboro Admissions & Care Center pets receive the medical, nutritional, and emotional care they need in order to become ready for adoption.

Wright-Way Rescue encourages the participation of volunteers who support the following mission: Wright-Way Rescue seeks to reduce the number of homeless adoptable pets euthanized in the Midwest each year through an adoption program, community education, promotion of spaying and neutering, and a shelter medicine outreach program.

All potential volunteers wanting to work directly with animals must be interviewed prior to placement. We also require that all volunteers participate in our training program as part of their work experience. If you agree with our mission and are willing to be interviewed and trained, we encourage you to complete this application. Volunteers are needed at both the Southern IL Admissions & Care Center and the Wright-Way Rescue Adoption Center in Niles IL.   In lieu of the application process and animal related training programs; Wright-Way Rescue also needs volunteers to help as project managers, fundraisers, event planners and creative graphic art designers.  Please email Kerry at wwrvolunteer@aol.com if you would like to volunteer in these administrative positions only.   If you are however looking to work with animals please follow the directions below.

Volunteers must:

•be at least eighteen years old

•make a six-month commitment of approximately three hours per week

To get started:

1.Complete the application

Visit one of our locations to fill out an application in person. If your availability and interests coincide with available volunteer positions, we'll contact you to schedule you for a volunteer orientation.

2.Interview

Prospective volunteers interview one-on-one with a WWR representative to discuss personal goals and to determine the most suitable volunteer assignment.

3.Attend training

To learn about safety procedures, pet adoptions, animal behavior and other  important information about WWR's many programs, volunteers also participate in scheduled one on one training.

Community Service (school or court ordered)

Please note that to perform community service for school, you must be at least 16 years old. To perform court-ordered community service, you must not have been charged with violent, drug-related, theft or felony crimes. 

PLEASE NOTE Court ordered community service opportunities are now available at both locations!

We offer community services opportunities five days a week in either four- or eight-hour blocks.
