Foster Care Program
Foster Program Information

We are always looking for dedicated foster homes for dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens. Foster program candidates can range in age from newborns to seniors. There are also pregnant moms to be that desperately need foster care. Animals most in need of foster homes are typically those who are either to young for our adoption program, or need work on socialization or obedience training. Some simply need to learn how to live in an indoor family setting. Your time fostering equals a higher chance of success when that pet does find a permanent home.

The length of each foster situation varies based on the needs of that pet. Typically puppies and kittens will be with a foster home until they reach 8-9 weeks. Adult dogs and cats are usually there until a home is found which can range from 2 weeks to several months. Fostering is a wonderful and rewarding experience.

As a foster home your responsibilities include providing your foster pet with good nutrition and water, safe toys, basic training, socialization, and lots of love. You would also be responsible for transporting this pet to and from adoption events, scheduled veterinary appointments (at one of our vets in either DesPlaines or Park Ridge), and giving needed medications.

To become a foster parents please fill out our online FOSTER APPLICATION. Our foster home coordinator will contact you to discuss what type of foster animal may work well in your family. Please ensure that before applying all family members are in agreement with fostering a pet in need. All foster applicants must be 21 years of age or older and be able to pick up foster pets at our Adoption Center in Niles IL. All foster homes must be open to a "home check" and willing to apply for a IDOA Foster Home License (This is required by IL state law - there is a $25 fee payable to Illinois Departement Of Agriculture).

To the right you will find a list of animals in urgent need of foster care. Once you are an approved and licenced foster home you may contact us to request one of the animals (or families of animals) posted. Litters of puppies/kittens are not divided. Pick-up of foster pets is typically on Friday between 12PM and 8PM at the WWR Adoption Center in Niles.

Thank you for fostering a pet in need. You are truly making a difference in the lives of homeless pets!

Foster homes offer hope to underage puppies and kittens and special needs dogs and cats.
